1. Education
The education component of the program involves meeting with families as early as the freshman year of high school. In the initial consultation, we thoroughly explain all factors affecting admissions decisions and describe the steps each student can take to positively impact those decisions. At this point, the student is prepared to work with us in completing an individual Connect Action Plan™.
The Connect Action Plan™ outlines each student’s specific goals and provides the steps necessary to realize those goals. This enables students to best position their high school experiences to address the three areas colleges focus on for admissions acceptance: academics, testing performance and personal qualities. Academics focus on grade point average and curriculum, while testing performance involves scoring on college entrance exams. Personal qualities are typically conveyed in a personal statement, extracurricular involvement, interviews and letters of recommendation.
2. Personalized Coaching
A key feature of the Future Stars’ program is the personalized coaching component which includes one-on-one meetings as well as unlimited phone and email contact. Our firm has demonstrated a proven ability to connect with students of all backgrounds in outlining how the choices they make in high school can affect their educational and professional pursuits. Many parents have lauded Future Stars for its ability as a third-party expert to impress upon their children the importance of preparing for college. Clients also benefit from Future Stars’ extensive network of national educators and professionals who help identify internships and other opportunities that highlight each student’s unique talents and interests.
“So much of what we do at Future Stars is about motivation,” says Future Stars’ President Scott Hamilton. “I tell many of our students that I’m holding up a crystal ball for them and this is their future. We talk about where they’re headed and the things they can do to help them get to where they want to be.”
To further provide that motivation and hone students’ skills, Future Stars also hosts a series of development forums. Foundation Forums focus on topics including proven study skills, mock application review exercises and learning the habits of the most effective people. Meanwhile, Admissions Forums address topics such as writing a compelling personal statement and delivering a powerful interview.
3. Application Process Management
The process management component of the program includes a personalized SAT testing schedule, continual reminders of all admission steps and deadlines as well as unlimited essay proofreading. A personal program binder serves as an essential organizational tool for each student in maintaining admission documents, deadline trackers, resumes and much more. We also coach students in the company’s onsite computer lab while they complete their admissions applications. This ensures that applications are completed accurately and ahead of schedule.
As we explain the admissions process to parents, many tell us that they had no idea how involved it has become. Although it is true that the college admissions process is more complicated than in the past, we guide the family through every step, reducing stress and ensuring that students present themselves in a way that garners the right options.
4. Test Preparation
Included in the program is an SAT prep class in which students learn proven success strategies. They also take practice SAT and ACT tests administered in a simulated environment in our onsite classroom. Additionally, students receive individual guidance on how to best begin preparing for admission tests early so that weaknesses can be addressed and strengths can be maximized.
5. College Major and Career Discovery Program
This one-on-one program is for those students who would like to work with a certified career counselor. Students are administered career and personality assessment tests that are professionally evaluated and interpreted. This information is then used as the career counselor and student explore the best-fit career option and corresponding college major. Included in this option is unlimited phone and email coaching with the career counselor throughout high school.
